Baby Dal

Ingredients

Makes

  • 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp minced ginger
  • ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 cup lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp tomato paste

Prep

  1. Soak 1 cup lentils for 1 hour
  2. Mince 2 cloves garlic

Cooking

  1. Put a large suacepan over medium heat and heat 2 Tbsp coconut oil
  2. Add the minced garlic, 1 Tbsp minced ginger, 1 tsp turmeric and ½ tsp cumin seeds. Cook for ~2 minutes stiring frequently.
  3. Stir in 1 cup lentils until coated in oil
  4. Add 4 cups water and 2 Tbsp tomato paste
  5. Bring to a fast simmer, then cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until lentils are soft. About 25 minutes
